Class Newsletter- Week of February 9, 2015

This week we are reading “The Wretched Stone”, “Jumanji”, and “The Wreck of the Zephyr” by Chris Van Allsburg, who also happens to be one of my favorite authors! We will focus on some vocabulary words in these stories. This week we are continuing our Chris Van Allsburg author study, and for a final culminating activity the students will be creating board games based on one of Van Allsburg’s books. We are also writing narrative stories based on the illustrations in Van Allsburg’s book “The Mysteries of Harris Burdick”. Make sure you ask your child about their story. Please see the message about Valentine’s Day on the back of this newsletter. Let’s have a great week

Writing Prompt for Tuesday, January 6

If you had the choice, would you want to live forever? In Tuck Everlasting, perhaps Natalie Babbitt's most famous book, ten-year-old Winnie Foster faces that choice when she wanders into the woods and comes across the Tuck family who has discovered the fountain of youth. If you had the option,  would you drink from the magic water of immortality or refuse it?

Write a persuasive essay that takes a position for or against living forever and develop your argument using solid reasoning. Convince us that your position is the right one.

Mr. Hauptmann’s Class Newsletter
January 5, 2015

Welcome back, and Happy New Year! I hope you had a relaxing holiday, and excited for the new year ahead. I love this time of year at school, we are well into our routines and I find the most academic growth happens in the next four months. In Science we are beginning a unit on simple machines and are starting to think out our Science Fair projects (don’t worry, we will be completing these in class!) This week’s spelling words are fourth grade sight words, which are words that fourth graders are expected to be able to read and spell with 100% accuracy, though they are typically misspelled by many. Please practice these words at home as well. Let’s have a great week!

Class Newletter- Week of December 15, 2014

Mr. Hauptmann’s Class Newsletter
December 16, 2014

This week we will be focusing on building our Gingerbread monuments with students from Mrs. Karl/Mele’s and Mrs. Perdiz-Cash’s classes. If you would like to view the completed Washington D.C. model on Friday it will be set up in the conference room from 10:00am until 4:00pm. We will also be starting a unit in math where we will learn to mind the mean (average), median, mode, and range of a set of data. Let’s have a great week!

I want to take this time to thank those of you who have volunteered in our classroom and school this year. I also appreciate all the support each of you has given your child, because of you we have had a successful start to the school year. Parents and guardians are a child’s first and most important teacher, and you are a crucial part of our school community. I am thankful for the opportunity to work with your children each day, and am proud of their progress so far. I hope that you are enjoying this holiday season and are able to relax and spend time with your families over vacation.
