This week we are reading “The Horned Toad Prince” by Jackie Mims Hopkins.  This entertaining fairy tale takes place in the Southwestern part of the United States, so we will also be studying the geography and climate of this unique region. We will focus on some vocabulary words in this story also.  It would be helpful if you will reinforce the meaning of these words at home with your child.  Also, on this newsletter you will find our spelling words for the week.  Please practice these words at home as well.  The words in italics are our challenge spelling words.  The Chapter 1 Math Tests should be in your child’s Homework Folder. Please look this over and have your child correct any mistakes. Let’s have a great week!

We had a great first week and I am so excited for the upcoming year! I will be sending home a newsletter like this each week, and I am asking you and your child to sign it and return it to school on Tuesday. Included in the newsletters will be information about what we are learning and important upcoming dates. This week we are reading “The Volcano That Changed the World” by Lauren Tarshis and “Silverman City” by Jenny Nimmo. We will focus on some vocabulary words in these stories (see below).  It would be helpful if you will reinforce the meaning of these words at home with your child. In math we are reviewing place value and number sense. Please sign the bottom of the newsletter and return the lower portion with your child on Tuesday.
