Comic Book Project

COMIC STRIP PROJECT

Visit gocomics.com with an adult. Skim the comics you like and find one you can use for writing a dialog. “Calvin and Hobbes”, “Garfield”, and “Peanuts” are good places to start. Make sure the comic is appropriate to share at school, and it has at least two speakers.

Right click on the comic of your choice and copy the image to a new Microsoft Word or Google document. Paste the comic at the top, and then write a dialog below it, using font size 12 or 14. Include all of the proper punctuation and quotation marks. Check for spelling, save it, and print two copies (one for your Writer’s Portfolio). If you have time you may choose another comic and do a second one for extra-credit. See sample below.

Calvin says to Hobbes, “ For school, we’re supposed to write a paragraph about what our dads do.”
Hobbes reads, “Dad: The Paragraph.”
“Catchy title, huh?” Calvin asks.
“What does my dad do?” Hobbes reads again, “ Mostly, he gets on my nerves. The End.”
“You may get a point for succinctness.” Says Hobbes.
Calvin replies, “Well what else is there to say?”

Class Newsletter- Week of June 2, 2014

Mr. Hauptmann’s Class Newsletter
Unit 5, Week 5- June 2, 2014

We have a lot going on this week, so I have decided that there will not be any spelling, though along with their writing and math homework students should still be reading at least 20 minutes each night. State research projects are due on Thursday, so please check in with your child and make sure they are making progress on this assignment.

Tomorrow morning (Tuesday) we are visiting Morse Pond, where students will get to tour the school and have some of their questions answered. We will return in time for lunch.

Friday is our bike trip to the Cape Cod Canal! You can drop off your bike Thursday after school or Friday morning (don’t forget your helmet!). We will leave promptly at 9:20am and will return to the school around 2:30pm. Please dress for the weather and be prepared by making sure your bike tires have plenty of air and your bike is working smoothly. Students (and parent chaperones) should bring a lunch and two water bottles (no glass please). If a student is requesting a lunch from the cafeteria please let me know by Wednesday. Students need to carry their lunch with them so plan on bringing a small backpack to school on Friday. Parents who are planning on riding with us on Friday should meet us around 9:50am at the large parking lot in Buzzards Bay (near the Railroad Bridge). This trip is always a highlight for the students and a great way to reward all the hard work they have done this year!

Important Upcoming Dates:
Tuesday, June 3- 4th grade classes visit Morse Pond
Thursday, June 5- We are going to try and recreate our class picture from September (try to wear an outfit that is similar to what you wore in the picture).
Friday, June 6- Bike trip on the Cape Cod Canal (you may drop your bike off Thursday afternoon)
Friday, June 13- Field Day (make sure you wear maroon or white)
Wednesday, June 18- 4th Grade Graduation
Tuesday, June 24- Last Day of School
